Internet has done wonders to the humanity. The amount of information that's circulating today in the global network is even hard to imagine, it's probably even larger than the amount of information stored in all libraries of the world! But another question is whether this information is in any way useful or purposeful (as the majority of paper books, documents, scientific works, newspapers, magazines etc. The very nature of internet, the freedom of sending and receiving any information existing in the world has led to various kinds of excesses like overwhelming the global network with useless, unimportant information (like various forums, blogs, chats etc), and sometimes to various breaches of the law, like posting pornography (and which is even more terrible – children's pornography as well as other kinds of malicious perversion). So today, although the global web is an extremely useful and fun-type source of information, it is not a safe place anymore and extreme care should be taken to protect children from accessing websites containing violence, pornography, as well as other elements that can influence children negatively. To understand what advantages or sometimes disadvantages internet can bring to the humanity one should understand clearly what internet is all about, because many people might think that internet is only about web browsing and reading information from websites. No. Internet is much more than that; there are hundreds of various services available on the basis of the global network that were impossible in the past. And a lot of them is still to come as the process of development continues every single moment (thanks to the high level of investments into the IT sphere for the past decade) in order to bring more and more profits to the developers and publishers of such new programs, games, videos, audio files, texts and so on. Many of the services became available after the introduction of the so called "web 2.0" system which allows programmers to integrate thousands of applications in websites in order to enhance the process of providing communication, entertainment, business collaboration, etc. The well known social networks like Facebook, Myspace and many others are products of such amazing innovations. Among the various internet services available for every single user are instant messaging, VoIP calls, video conferences, sharing of files, social networking, online games and many, many others.
