Video conferencing

Remember yourself in the beginning of the 90's. You were watching science fiction movies where, for example, a commander of a spaceship was talking to his subordinate in another place from a TV screen. The subordinate would then answer him and the commander would see him on a TV screen too. Most probably you were thinking that this kind of communications was too cool to be true and that it would take at least half a century to introduce such technologies everywhere. Indeed, TV cameras needed for such interaction were extremely expensive for even public telephone offices to buy them, and we could definitely not imagine what type of TV screens (Like LCD or TFT with the highest resolution possible) we would be using. Nevertheless, it took humanity about a decade to invent and introduce such technologies for wide use. And video conferencing is one of the numerous amazing services that we have thanks to the internet. Today any person with a decent broadband internet speed and a web camera (which is not expensive at all – anyone can buy one for less than 20 dollars) is able to chat with a friend who lives, say, on an opposite side of the Earth and see this person in real time! And what is even more outstanding is that all such technologies are available for free to anyone. The only thing you have to pay is the fee for the internet connection provided by an ISP, which by the way is reduced every year due to the great competition in this sector. Video conferences have become extremely popular with everybody, from preschoolers to directors and stockholders of huge corporations.
