VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol (sometimes called IP telephony, Voice over Broadband, Internet telephony, broadband telephony) is an amazing new service that became available not long ago. The basic principle of this technology is using internet channels in order to transmit sound signals, particularly voice. One of the more particular applications of this service is IP telephony which is often used as a synonym of VoIP, although this is not correct. The difference between these two terms is that VoIP is basically the technology that enables people to transmit sound, and IP telephony is a service, somewhat related to conventional telephony and is sold to customers. The difference between conventional telephony and internet telephony is that VoIP systems rely completely on digital data transmission on the basis of the existing data networks and do not need the conventional telephone infrastructure. Although telephone companies have begun to implement new digital technologies in their networks in order to improve the quality of sound transmission as well as to enhance the number of services provided, the voice over internet protocol still has some advantages due to the technologies implemented. They include compression of up to forty percent of the digital signal to reduce the amount of traffic, which does not influence the quality of the sound transmitted; the ability to use multiple channels on a single broadband connection, which actually makes it possible to add multiple telephone line at home or in an office.
